Tenormin schützt das Herz vor übermässiger Beanspruchung. Die Herzmuskelarbeit wird vermindert und die Reaktion des Herzens auf körperliche und seelische Belastung wird gedämpft. Tenormin senkt den erhöhten Blutdruck. Angina pectoris (starke drückende Schmerzen in der Brust, die in den linken Arm ausstrahlen können) tritt auf, wenn das Herz bei Belastung nicht genügend Sauerstoff erhält. Tenormin verhindert diese Anfälle oder reduziert deren Häufigkeit und Schmerzintensität. Ein unregelmässiger Herzrhythmus oder ein durch Krankheit oder Stress erhöhter Puls können durch Tenormin normalisiert werden.
Der in Tenormin enthaltene Wirkstoff Atenolol gehört zu einer Gruppe von Betablockern, die herzspezifisch wirken. Er senkt den erhöhten Blutdruck und dämpft die Herztätigkeit, ohne die Muskulatur der Atemwege zu beeinflussen. Somit können auch Patienten, die an einer Erkrankung der Atemwege (Atemnot, Asthma) leiden, Tenormin mit entsprechender Vorsicht einnehmen.
Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin verschreibt Ihnen Tenormin:
zur Senkung des erhöhten Blutdruckes (Hypertonie);
zum Schutz des Herzmuskels vor übermässiger Belastung (Angina pectoris);
zur Regulierung von Herzrhythmusstörungen;
nach durchgemachtem Herzinfarkt;
zur Vorbeugung gegen einen weiteren Infarkt.
Tenormin darf nur auf Verschreibung des Arztes oder der Ärztin eingenommen werden.
Bei folgenden Krankheiten sollten Sie auf die Einnahme von Tenormin verzichten: falls Sie bereits früher einmal eine allergische Reaktion auf Tenormin bzw. den Wirkstoff Atenolol gezeigt haben, falls Sie an einer Herzkrankheit wie Herzschwäche oder Herzblock (Puls unter 50 Schläge pro Minute) leiden oder gelitten haben, falls Sie jemals einen sehr langsamen oder sehr unregelmässigen Puls, einen sehr tiefen Blutdruck oder eine sehr schlechte Durchblutung hatten, falls man bei Ihnen ein Phäochromozytom festgestellt hat oder nach längerem Fasten.
Tenormin ist für die Behandlung von Kindern nicht geeignet.
Dieses Arzneimittel kann die Reaktionsfähigkeit, die Fahrtüchtigkeit und Fähigkeit, Werkzeuge oder Maschinen zu bedienen, beeinträchtigen!
Aufgrund der möglichen unerwünschten Wirkungen von Tenormin (Müdigkeit, Schwindel) ist beim Lenken von Fahrzeugen und Bedienen von Maschinen Vorsicht geboten.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an Asthma, Atembeschwerden, Durchblutungsstörungen, Herzproblemen, Nierenkrankheiten oder Schilddrüsenerkrankungen leiden.
Teilen Sie Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin mit, wenn Sie andere Arzneimittel wie z.B. Disopyramide oder Amiodarone gegen unregelmässigen Puls, gegen zu hohen Blutdruck oder Angina pectoris, gegen Herzinsuffizienz oder gegen Schmerzen anwenden.
Sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin, wenn Sie abschwellende Nasensprays oder Mittel gegen Erkältung anwenden.
Falls Sie Clonidin gegen Bluthochdruck oder Migräne einnehmen, sollten Sie weder Clonidin noch Tenormin von sich aus absetzen, ohne mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin darüber gesprochen zu haben.
Während der Behandlung kann sich Ihr Puls verlangsamen. Dies ist eine natürliche Reaktion auf den Wirkstoff. Falls Ihr Ruhepuls unter 50 Schläge pro Minute sinkt, informieren Sie Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin.
Wenn Sie an Zuckerkrankheit leiden und Ihr Blutzucker oft niedrig ist, oder wenn Sie gleichzeitig andere Arzneimittel, insbesondere Herzmittel, einnehmen, so besprechen Sie das Vorgehen mit Ihrem Arzt bzw. Ihrer Ärztin.
Denken Sie vor einem chirurgischen Eingriff daran, dass dem Narkosearzt bzw. der Narkoseärztin alle Arzneimittel, die Sie einnehmen, bekannt sein müssen.
Informieren Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin, wenn Sie an anderen Krankheiten leiden, Allergien haben oder andere Arzneimittel (auch selbstgekaufte) einnehmen oder äusserlich anwenden!
Während einer Schwangerschaft oder Stillzeit sollten Sie wenn möglich keine Arzneimittel einnehmen. Diese Vorsichtsmassnahme gilt auch für Tenormin. In besonderen Fällen wird Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin entscheiden, ob und wann Tenormin während der Schwangerschaft oder Stillzeit angezeigt ist.
Wie alle Arzneimittel sollten Sie Tenormin genau nach den Anweisungen Ihres Arztes bzw. Ihrer Ärztin einnehmen. Im allgemeinen beträgt die Dosis für Erwachsene 1 mal täglich 1 Tablette Tenormin mite oder 1 mal täglich 1 Tablette Tenormin. Bei Patienten, die an einer Nierenerkrankung mit Ausscheidungsstörungen leiden, wird der Arzt bzw. die Ärztin die Dosis entsprechend anpassen. Nehmen Sie die Tabletten unzerkaut, am besten immer zur gleichen Tageszeit, während oder nach den Mahlzeiten mit etwas Flüssigkeit ein. Wenn Sie einmal eine Tablette vergessen haben, nehmen Sie diese ein, sobald Sie sich daran erinnern. Es sollten jedoch nicht zwei Tabletten gleichzeitig eingenommen werden. Ein unkontrollierter hoher Blutdruck kann gefährliche Folgen haben. Die Beendigung der Behandlung soll keinesfalls plötzlich, sondern über einen längeren Zeitraum erfolgen. Um die Wirkung von Tenormin in gewissen Fällen zu verbessern, kann Ihr Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin Ihnen zusätzlich andere Arzneimittel verschreiben. Sorgen Sie für einen ausreichenden Vorrat Ihrer Tenormin-Tabletten, damit Sie die Behandlung nicht unterbrechen müssen.
Ändern Sie nicht von sich aus die verschriebene Dosierung. Wenn Sie glauben, das Arzneimittel wirke zu schwach oder zu stark, so sprechen Sie mit Ihrem Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. mit Ihrer Ärztin oder Apothekerin.
Folgende Nebenwirkungen können bei der Einnahme von Tenormin auftreten:
Häufig wurde über Müdigkeit, Verlangsamung des Herzschlages, Kältegefühl in den Fingern und Zehen, Übelkeit, Erbrechen und Durchfall berichtet. Gelegentlich können Schlafstörungen auftreten. Selten sind kleinflächige Blutungen in die Haut oder Schleimhaut (Purpura), Verwirrtheit, Schwindel, Kopfschmerzen, Stimmungsschwankungen, Alpträume, Psychosen, Halluzinationen, Kribbeln in den Händen, Sehstörungen, Trockenheit der Augen, Verschlimmerung von Durchblutungsstörungen, Herzblock (Anzeichen hierfür sind unregelmässiger Herzschlag, Müdigkeit und Schwindel bei zu raschem Aufstehen), Verschlechterung einer Herzschwäche, tiefer Blutdruck, Verschlechterung von Atembeschwerden bei Asthmatikern, Mundtrockenheit, Verschlimmerung einer Schuppenflechte (Psoriasis), Hautausschläge, Haarausfall und Impotenz.
Kontaktieren Sie unverzüglich Ihren Arzt bzw. Ihre Ärztin, falls Ihr Ruhepuls im Verlauf der Behandlung unter 50 Schläge pro Minute sinkt, oder falls Ihr Blutdruck zu niedrig ist. Wie bei allen Arzneimitteln zur Regelung der Herzschlag-Frequenz kann es unter Tenormin zu Herz-Rhythmusstörungen kommen.
Wenn Sie Nebenwirkungen bemerken, die hier nicht beschrieben sind, sollten Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker bzw. Ihre Ärztin oder Apothekerin informieren.
Die Tabletten sollten in der Originalpackung bei Raumtemperatur (15?25 °C), vor Licht und Feuchtigkeit geschützt sowie für Kinder unerreichbar aufbewahrt werden.
Das Arzneimittel darf nur bis zu dem auf dem Behälter mit «EXP» bezeichneten Datum verwendet werden.
